What we expect from adults

We conducted a survey to find out what teenagers usually expect from adults and we want to make comments on the most frequent answers.

Understanding
Of course, understanding is very important. Teenagers are not children anymore; they are starting their grown life and begin having different problems. That is why good understanding is vital. If teenagers are understood and guided with care, their life is happier and more secure, and it's very unlikely that they will escape into bad addictions.

Love
It is natural for one to need love. But, in our turn, we should express our love too.

Freedom
Of course, it is important for teenagers to have more freedom than they used to have when they were children. Teenagers start to have their own life and they need less control. We should have our private lives.
But freedom should not be absolute. No freedom or full freedom are both bad.

To be left in peace
This one sounds a bit strange. We do not live on uninhabited island alone. We live in society and should interact with others and have our responsibilities and duties.

Not to teach about life
It is not completely reasonable request. It has always been in the world and it is natural that older give knowledge about life to younger. But we think it should be done not in orders, commands, prohibitions or in mentoring tone. Children understand better if this knowledge comes in explanations, reasons, discussions.

To be let to wear what I like and make piercing
Every generation has its fashion which can shock the older generations. But we need to explain and convince. However, everything should have its limits. Too shocking is not very good, it is not expression of yourself really.

Less homework
It is true that many teenagers are overloaded at school. But we need to become good educated people. It is difficult to survive in modern world without good education and homework is part of it. It teaches skills of self study and discipline.
But, of course, it would be better if homework was always reasonable and useful and as much interesting as possible.

More money
It is natural for teenagers to want to have or afford what others do. But we must also think about family income and how money is earned and where spent on by parents.

More part time job opportunities
Very reasonable demand. It is very difficult to find a job if you are a teenager, because organizations do not want to bother with you.

Right to opinion
Having own opinion about things is very important for teenagers.

To do what they expect from us
I expect all authority figures to do what they expect us to do - you know... set an example. I hate it when parents/teachers are like, no you can't eat a snack right now, and then they start eating a health bar in front of your face. HELLO! Can you say RUDE? Or they say, never smoke Charlotte ,( Not that I want to), but THEY smoke! Where is the good example there? At least that's what I think.

Respect
From adults I would like a little respect. I mean most adults think "Teens! These dreadful kids that think they're all that, and think they can curse and be rude when they feel like it!" Not all teens are like that. And I'm not saying all adults think that, but most do.
From us I think the adults want the same thing. Because I have to admit, we can be kind of rude to the adults in our life. So, I don't blame them for thinking we're little well you know. So in conclusion, everyone wants the same thing, Respect.
