Hiccups

By: Jessica James (U)

Hiccups are the one really weird sound from your body that you absolutely have no control over. When your diaphragm (the thing that controls your breathing) gets irritated, it interrupts your breathing and causes hiccups.

Hiccups can be caused by eating and drinking too much or too fast. When your breathing is interrupted, you tend to breathe a little faster; when a rush of air hits your voice box, a weird sound comes out that sounds like "Hic-cup". That's where we got the term "Hiccup." In conclusion, if you hate hiccups, don't eat or drink too fast; that could help avoid wasting your time trying to cure them.

By: Jessica James (U)
  • The flu usually comes during the later winter months.
  • The flu vaccine isn't foolproof; the flu could come around in a way that the vaccine doesn't protect.
  • Get a flu shot or use a nasal spray called Flumist.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick if you want to avoid the flu.
  • Wash your hands frequently to avoid bad germs that are pretty much everywhere.
